 2016 Mid-Year Conference Successes: Pueblo Installs New Youth Group
"Honoring our New Generation of Veterans and Educating our Military Families for a Promising Future!"

American GI Forum of Texas Inc. Report: Colorado Spring, CO – The 2016 American GI Forum National Mid-Year Conference (AGIF) was hosted in Colorado Springs,Colorado on March 31- May 2, 2016. The conference kick off with a VA Workshop hosted by the Department of Veterans Affairs from D.C. and the State of Colorado.

The VA provided the membership with value information to serve their prospective veterans community across the country.

As the State Commander of Colorado and Conference Coordinator I would like to acknowledge the conference committee who worked tireless to ensure all attendees a productive conference. Conference Co-Chair, Patsy M. Vazquez-Contes, Mary Acosta Treasurer, and conference volunteers: State Chairwoman Dora Gonzales, Reann Lucero, Ana Antencio, Annie Baca,Ted Sanchez and Albert Gonzales.

In addition, the conference recognizes the Keynote Speakers who shared their personal experiences that motivated and empowered the membership during the leadership events. Veteran Lawrence G. Romo Director, Selective Service System, Veteran Barbara Ward, Director Center for Minority Veterans and Gold Star Mother Silvia Buoniconti President of the Pikes Peak Chapter of the American Gold Star Mothers for the State of Colorado and proud Mother of CW3 Frank A. Buoniconti.   

The conference paid national tribute to Gold Star and Blue Star Mothers,VA Representatives, Corporate and Community Leaders by honoring their lost, service to our country, loyalty, engagement and commitment to their communities.  The Gold Star and Blue Star Mothers were awarded a personalized outdoor service flag with the branch of service and the name of their loved one printed on it.

The conference honorees are:

  • Two Time Blue Star Mother – Josephine Rasmussen
  • Gold Star Mother – Angelika McShan
  • Gold Star Mother – Silvia Buoniconti

  • Community Engagement Award – Home Depot District 253 & 210
  • John Ortiz, AGIF Mile High Member -– Lifetime Regional Achievement Award

Congratulations to the Pueblo Women's Chapter for organizing the Newest AGIF Youth Chapter,
Pueblo Youth Chapter Members are as follows: Youth Chair Alyssa Lopez, Vice Chair Addriana Stokes, Secretary Alexis Solis, Treasurer Peter Montoya, Sgt at Arms Monica Ruiz, Member Joseph Lopez, Member Addarrel Stokes and Member Valencia Vargas.

We would like to thank all the sponsors who contributed year after year, your devotion allows the AGIF to continue a national legacy that serves the veterans community across our nation.  To the members who took time out of your busy schedules and attended the conference I cannot thank you enough for your desire to volunteer your time for the betterment of those who served our country proudly.

AGIF National Mid-year Update: Conference Date moved to March 31-April 2, 2016 

American GI Forum of Texas Report: Colorado Springs, CO–The American GI Forum of the U.S and the American GI Forum of Colorado would like to inform you on the latest development on our 2016 National Midyear Conference being held in Colorado. Because of Holy Week and Easter Sunday, the dates for the Conference dates have been moved to March 31-April 2, 2016. The Hotel has extended its special rates until January 10, 2016 and the Reduced Registration for delegates has also been extended to the same date. With the Exception of the new dates, all else remains the same. Please review the agenda below and note that only dates have changed. Our Colorado Committee apologizes for any inconvenience and still extends a cordial invitation to all members, their families and friends, throughout the nation to the 2016 National Mid-Year Conference in Colorado Springs, Colorado, known as the Rocky Mountain State.

The 2016 AGIF National Mid-Year conference will convene to discuss issues, set policies and execute programs to enhance our awareness of military issues that is crucial to our nation and our veterans across the country. We are planning VA Seminars and workshops to cover veteran’s benefits and their economic status in the community that will help improve the quality of life for all who served in all wars.  Lastly, the conference will host seminars on educational incentives to assist our military with the knowledge to assist them to attain higher education so as to achieve the American Dream.

We have invited the Ft. Carson Brigadier General, the Governor of Colorado, the Mayor of Colorado Springs, the VA Secretary and some presidential candidates such as: Hillary Clinton, Jeb Bush and former Governor Rick Perry.

Colorado Springs is located on the eastern boundary of the Rocky Mountains, approximately a one–hour drive south of the Denver metropolitan area. To the east are rolling plains, ideal for a growing community’s expansion and development.  To the west rises the majestic 14,110-foot Pikes Peak, one of many high, scenic peaks of the Rockies. To the south is the Arkansas River valley with its agricultural lands also please visit the near towns of Pueblo and Canon City which also have many historical sites to make your stay a memorable one. . 

The American GI Forum waits for you!  The chosen theme for the conference is “Honoring our New Generation of Veterans and Educating our Military Families for a promising Future“ At this Mid-Year conference the American GI Forum proudly salutes the brave men and women who have served with Honor, Courage and those who gave their all but never forgotten.

We would like to take a moment to reflect and remind ourselves that we are a family veteran’s organization. With everyone’s participation the organization will remain focused and continue the missions of the AGIF and the reason it was founded.  It is important to build long-term commitments that will allow us to build the bridges that will impact and allow this organization to continue to serve for the next 100 years.
