American GI Forum of San Marcos 18TH Annual Firecracker Golf Tournament
American GI Forum of Texas, Inc. Report: SAN MARCOS, Texas – American GI Forum of Texas Inc. San Marcos Chapter Commander Charles Doria and Scholarship Chairman Jesse N. Sanchez announced that its 18th Annual Firecracker Golf Tournament Classic benefitting Veterans and Scholarships is set for Wednesday July 4th at Quail Creek Golf Club, 27101 Airport Hwy.
To help ensure a successful scholarship fundraiser, the American GI Forum of San Marcos is soliciting support from corporate businesses, area merchants, and local organizations as tournament sponsors. With a $150.00 contribution, your organization or business will obtain a Tee-Box signage (18’x24”) which bears the sponsor’s name for display at the tournament tee-box holes. Chapters, Organization and Corporate businesses also have an alternate option to enter a 3-Person Golf Teams (Male or Female) for a $300.00 entry fee. All team sponsors will be listed on printed announcements for distribution at the course of the event.

Independence Day Fundraising Event: San Marcos Golf Tournament
The San Marcos Forum Chapter of the American GI Forum of Texas, Inc. Celebrated the 4th of July with their Annual Firecracker Golf Tournament. The yearly event is one of their Scholarship Fundraising events that takes place at the TSU-San Marcos Golf Course during the 4th of July. This year approximately 18 teams consisting of 72 players total participated in the event. Cash prizes were awarded to the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners, as well as the longest drive and closest to the pin.
Also participating was the Greater San Marcos Sgt. JPN Memorial Women’s Chapter. They helped prepare the breakfast burritos, smoked brisket and smoked sausages for the hungry golfers. Refreshments were continually offered during and after the tournaments completion. They later manned a booth at the Annual downtown celebration and sold food to benefit their Scholarship Fund.
San Marcos is one of the largest chapters of the American GI Forum of Texas, Inc. and the oldest in Central Texas. They maintain a clubhouse, and an apartment complex and a hall that is used for events in the community. They have been participating and contributing to the community since 1948 and have had members serve as City Councilmen, County Commissioners and School Board plus other elected and appointed positions within the city, county and state. They give out thousands of dollars in scholarships annually.
