San Marcos to Host Annual Firecracker Golf Tourney

American GI Forum of Texas Inc.: SAN MARCOS, TX – Chapter Commander Randy Padilla has announced that the Annual Golf Tournament benefiting Scholarships and Veterans is set for July 4th at Quail Creek Country Club, 2701 Airport Hwy, in San Marcos.

Below is San Marcos Commander Randy Padilla’s Statement:

“On behalf of the American GI Forum, I am proud to announce that the 14TH Annual Firecracker Golf Tournament will be held on July 4TH 2014 at Quail Creek Country Club in San Marcos Texas. The AGIF is dedicated to addressing problems of discrimination and inequities endured by Hispanic veterans. Through the efforts of many of the organization’s early leadership, the AGIF grew to other states and has chapters throughout the United States. Though predominantly Hispanic, the AGIF is a fully interracial U.S. veterans and family organization.

Independence Day Fundraising Event: San Marcos Golf Tournament

The San Marcos Forum Chapter of the American GI Forum of Texas, Inc. Celebrated the 4th of July with their Annual Firecracker Golf Tournament.  The yearly event is one of their Scholarship Fundraising events that takes place at the TSU-San Marcos Golf Course during the 4th of July.  This year approximately 18 teams consisting of 72 players total participated in the event. Cash prizes were awarded to the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners, as well as the longest drive and closest to the pin.

Also participating was the Greater San Marcos Sgt. JPN Memorial Women’s Chapter. They helped prepare the breakfast burritos, smoked brisket and smoked sausages for the hungry golfers. Refreshments were continually offered during and after the tournaments completion. They later manned a booth at the Annual downtown celebration and sold food to benefit their Scholarship Fund.

San Marcos is one of the largest chapters of the American GI Forum of Texas, Inc. and the oldest in Central Texas.  They maintain a clubhouse, and an apartment complex and a hall that is used for events in the community. They have been participating and contributing to the community since 1948 and have had members serve as City Councilmen, County Commissioners and School Board plus other elected and appointed positions within the city, county and state. They give out thousands of dollars in scholarships annually.
