State Mid-Year Conference in Del Rio February 21-23

American GI Forum of Texas, Inc. Report: DEL RIO, Texas – The State Board of Directors met February 21-23, 2019 in Del Rio, Texas for their annual Mid-year Conference. The Conference convened on Friday February 22 at 1:00 am. Commander Ceasar Ruiz opened the conference to a quorum of Texas delegates from throughout the state. Local Commander Jose Martinez welcome the delegates and Vice Commander Howdy Leal and chairwoman Sylvia Garza responded by thanking the Dr. Fermin Calderon and San Felipe del Rio Women's Chapters for hosting the event.
Gil Rodriguez, AGIF-Texas CEO gave the State-of-state report followed by the State Financial Reports. A full report on all properties was given by the CEO with recommendations on existing properties and the status of each property. Reports by the State Officers and Region Commanders followed. Discussions on the status of each region was presented. Membeship was also a topic of discussion.
Friday evening the hosts served dinner followed by live music and dancing.
On Saturday, items of discussion included reports on the 2018 State Conference and brief report on the 2018 National Conference in San Antonio hosted by the AGIF of Texas. also reported by the past National Commanders Luis Vazquez Contes and Angel Zuniga was Event hosted by the AGIF in Washington DC las November.
Past National Chairwoman Patsy Vazquez Contes and Past National Commander Angel Zuniga hosts for the 2019 Mid-year conference reported on the upcoming National Midyear Conference in Corpus Christi next April. Seems like it's going to be a good event and lots of work has gone into to by Patsy, Angel and their committee. Updates on that event will be posted on the AGIF-TX Website. Commander Ruiz and CEO Rodriguez gave a brief report on the upcoming State Conference in June in Seguin, Texas.
Past National Commander Luis Vazquez Contes, now serving as National Office manager, presented a brief a report on the 71st National Conference presently being planned for in Las Vegas, Nevada, hosted by the National Board of Directors this coming Summer. He will have more information and will be sending it to the State Office for dissemination. National Commander Larry Romo was in California for their State's Midyear and could not be present and may add to the report.
Resolutions Chair and his committee presented three resolutions, two having to do with changes to the state constitution. one was to change the distribution of net profits from conferences from 50/50 to 2/3 for hosting chapter and 1/3 for the state. They were read to the delegate and were approved and passed. The other would allow that Heroes Lodge be included in the state constitution as an affiliate of the State Organization. These two constitution amendments were presented by the committee and passed. These amendments will go for ratification in June in Seguin. If ratified, the changes will be made to the state constitution and will be published.
Members are reminded that dues for 2019 were due January 1. For those who haven’t paid and to avoid additional late fees please have dues and Charter assessments when registering or during the meeting.

Information on Room Reservations in Del Rio is as follows: Room Rates are set at $79.00 flat rate and include a breakfast buffet for 2 persons per room. Early Registration for the Texas Mid-Year Conference has been set for $50.00 per person or $65.00 on site. Meals except for Saturday evening are included for registered guest. Please mail your early Registration Forms to Mrs. Tina Martinez at 504 Ramon St., Del Rio, Texas 78840. A Hospitality Room at the hotel is planned on Thursday evening, February 21 for those arriving early. On Friday February 22, General Assembly convenes after breakfast at 10:00 am at the San Felipe Exces clubhouse, 302 Mendez St., Del Rio, Texas. Delegates and guests will be served lunch. Friday evening, a dinner and live music entertainment will be at the clubhouse. On Saturday the assembly reconvenes after breakfast at the clubhouse. A Mexican Food Buffet lunch will be at the Ramada Hotel. Saturday evening dinner will be on-your-own.
Commander Jose Martinez and wife, Women’s Region Chair Tina, together with the Fermin Calderon and the San Felipe Women’s Chapters are the hosts for our Mid-Year Board of Directors meeting beginning with the reception on Thursday evening. The Agenda is still being planned by State Commander Ceasar Ruiz and will be distributed at the meeting. Important items of discussion will include the National Midyear Conference in Corpus Christi in April, the State Conference in June in Seguin, and the 71st National Conference presently being planned in Las Vegas, NV and hosted by the National Board of Directors this Summer.
