A Brief Update Report on the 2019 Mid-year Conference in Corpus Christi
American GI Forum of Texas, Inc. Report: AUSTIN, Texas –The 2019 National Midyear Conference held in Corpus Christi Texas April 28 thru May 1, 2019 at the Radisson Hotel Corpus Christi Beach was successfully completed. The Hotel accommodations for delegates and the meeting rooms were very good and served us well. All information and reports that were given were approved. The report on the 2018 National Conference was presented by Texas Conference Chairs was approved and the distributions of funds was made concluding the business of the 2018 National Conference in San Antonio.
Reports by the National leadership were also presented and approved. Committee chairs were appointed accepted and assigned for the 2019 National Conference in Las Vegas. The workshops and seminar sessions were all well received. Mr. David Jiron gave a brief session on the role of VSO’s and made himself available for any questions or assistance member may request. There was also a workshop on US. Census Bureau by Mr. Raul Cisneros, Director of National Partnerships. Mr. Ernest Garza, CPA conducted a brief seminar to the assembly on IRS matters and concerns as well as new laws. Mrs. Dense Blanchard, 2019 AGIF National Conference Coordinator gave a report on the upcoming National Conference in Las Vegas and answered some concerns. Mr. Frank Archuleta, Texas Army Reserve Ambassador gave a brief session on scholarships.

On Tuesday, the Delegates were given a tour of Texas A&M University Dr. Hector P. Garcia Plaza and Archives. The Tour was followed an Awards Luncheon at the University hosted by the Robstown Beatrice T. Perez Women’s Chapter. Mr. Russell Lopez treated us with his always eloquent renditions of our National Anthem. A Video Message from Texas Governor Greg Abbot was followed by program for Four Gold Star Mothers. They were honored in a somber affair that ended with the playing of ‘Taps’ by Mr. Jesse Garcia, a member of the Patriots Band----- the Dr. Jose Antonio Garcia and George Evans Elementary Schools were presented with technology equipment by the BTP Chapter and their sponsors. Ms. Rosie G Collin, POCCA introduce Mr. Stephen B. Dillard Executive Director, Center for Minority Veterans, U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs, Office of the Secretary, the keynote speaker.
The speaker was followed by a CORPORATE & COMMUNITY PANEL DISCUSSION with Barbara Canales, Nueces County Judge, Rosie G. Collin, POCCA, Christina Cisneros-Guzman, CITGO, Regina Garcia, H-E-B Public Affairs, and Terry Mills, NACCP President H. Boyd Hall Branch answering questions on how best to achieve success.
Ms. Yolanda Q. Suarez, Special guest and honoree was awarded the BTP Flag of Valor for her many years of work for Veterans and their Families through the NVOP. Also receiving the award was Mr. Ray Hernandez, as well as H-E-B, CITGO, CCRTA, and POCCA for their work with CBO’s and their leadership roles in helping communities.
A brief report was presented on the work being done on the AGIF National constitution.
The morning of the last day, the delegates were given a bus tour of Corpus Christi Dr. Garcia places of interest as well as the Selena Statue. In the Afternoon after a hosted lunch at a preferred local restaurant the delegates returned to the AGIF business. Beginning with Unfinished Business that including reports on the DC Veteran’s Day Ceremony, Lawsuit updates, Membership. IRS 990 reports and membership benefits.
Under New business the question of raising membership dues, state charter increases, and Proposing of AGIF new programs. The bid for the 2020 midyear Conference was held, ending the conference with announcements, good and welfare. The Meeting was adjourned until the National Conference in Las Vegas in August.

National Mid-year Conference in Corpus Christi Updates
American GI Forum of Texas, Inc. Report: AUSTIN, Texas –Latest updates on the 2019 National Midyear Conference being held in Corpus Christi Texas April 28 thru May 1, 2019 at the Radisson Hotel Corpus Christi Beach. Registration for the conference has been set (Click Here). Past National Commander Angel Zuniga is in charge of Registration. He is working with Past National Chairwoman and Conference Chair Patsy Vazquez Contes as Conference Coordinator. They are working to make this a successful mid-year. The Hotel has been selected with room rates set and contracts are in order, the delegate registration fee is also set with registration forms available on this site. For more information complete see below. The site and date for the 2019 National Conference have been set for the Golden Nugget Hotel and Casino on August 4-8, 2019.
Registration for Forum and Women is set at $150.00 before March 28, 2019. After that date and on site it will increase to $175.00. Youth will start at $100.00 and increase to $125.00 after March 28. Non-members will stay at $175.00. Payment can be made by check or money order. Cash will not be accepted on-site. There is a $35.00 handling fee for all returned checks. Tickets for lunches and dinners may be made available for non-registered guests.

Cancellation minus a 15% penalty will be accepted in writing through February 16, 2019. After that date, registrations are non-refundable. Refunds will be issued after the conference.
