Romo-Gonzales Re-elected
Update on 71st Annual American GI Forum National Conference held in Las Vegas, August 4-8, 2019

American GI Forum of Texas, Inc.: AUSTIN, Texas –2019 American G I Forum of the United States National Conference took place August 4-8, 2019 at the Golden Nugget Hotel and Casino, in downtown Las Vegas, Nevada 89101. Below are some updates and events that occurred during the Conference. National Commander Larry Romo won a close race for rel-election with Texas Commander Ceasar Ruiz. National Chairwoman Dora Gonzales ran unopposed. All new officers are listed below.

The Conference convened and went pretty much as planned. Workshops, and seminars were available on several topics. A number of resolutions were presented by Resolutions Chair Jake Alarid. Most were concerns for Immigrants deportations after having served in the Armed Forces and Minorities being denied Medals for distinguished service.

Mr. Rudy Trevino, ancor for KIII-TV Corpus Christi, Texas served as Master of Ceremonies for the Women’s Leadership and Award Luncheon on Monday. Keynote speaker for that event was U.S. Representative Dina Titus NV-1. There was also a Gold and Blue Star Mothers’ Presentation during the Luncheon. Please note that Mr. Rudy Trevino served as MC. For all Luncheons and Banquets.

Monday during breakouts, the Forum had a Panel Discussion on current Challenges affecting Veterans, Military members and their families. A similar Panel discussion was held by the Women on challenges affecting Women Veterans and Veteran’s wives.

A Welcome Reception that evening for Delegates and their guests was hosted by the NVOP.

Tuesday Mr. Dwayne Campbell, VA Center for Minority Veterans conducted a morning workshop with fellow members from the VA. Mr. Hector Barajas gave a briefing on deported Migrant Veterans and the progress being made.

The National Veterans Outreach Program held their meeting that afternoon as did the HEF.

The Commanders’ Banquet MC was again Mr. Rudy Trevino. Keynote for the Banquet was Mr. Stephen B. Dillard Director Center for Minority Veterans, VA, Washington D.C. The Evening guests were treated to a special Presentation by no other than the King, Elvis Presley who wooed the crowd for a fantastic show.

Wednesday during the afternoon General Session the Constitution was again reviewed and final reading of amendments took place. Also, final readings of resolutions and Legal updates were discussed. Resolutions passed will are with the Jake Alarid, Resolutions Chair.

The Youth Achievement Awards Luncheon with Keynote speaker Nevada State Assemblywoman Brittney Miller.

Before elections, Midyears bids were accepted, and Michigan will be the Host in March or April 2020. The 2020 National Conference was awarded and will be hosted by Texas.

National Youth Treasurer David Vigil – Michigan 

The next National Conference will be hosted by Texas and will be in San Antonio, Texas. Updates will follow.

71st Annual American GI Forum National Conference in Las Vegas, August 4-8, 2019

American GI Forum of Texas, Inc.: AUSTIN, Texas –The National Conference Committee is working to finalize details for the upcoming 2019 American G I Forum of the United States National Conference scheduled for August 4-8, 2019 at the Golden Nugget Hotel and Casino, 129 East Freemont Street in downtown Las Vegas, Nevada 89101. National Commander Larry Romo confirms that all updates and information will be subject to changes and will be posted on this site as they becomes available.

The Conference Committee is headed by National Commander Larry Romo and include: National Chairwoman Dora Gonzales, National Youth Chair Sofia Salinas, National Treasurer Pat Marrero, Denise Blanchard Conference Planner, Luis A Vazquez-Contes State Commander of Colorado/National Office CFO, Patsy Vazquez-Contes Director of Community Relations, and Angelica Tellechea Director of Community Relations. 

The Conference Headquarters is the Golden Nugget Hotel and Casino. A block of rooms was been set aside for all attendees. Room Rates are set at $59.00 plus 13% tax. The rooms were all sold out, but an extension has been granted to the AGIF so please make your reservations as soon as possible. The resort fee has been waived only if attendees’ book through the available rooms for American GI Forum Conference 1-800-331-5731) Code: (GSAMGIF). These rooms available include:
